Biography
Yingyi grew up in Guangzhou, China. She started learning the violin at the age of five and began her orchestra training at Guangzhou Zhixin High School Orchestra and Guangzhou Symphony Youth orchestra She gained experience as a soloist and an orchestral player by performing at festivals and concerts in United Kingdom, Russia, Taiwan, Austria and China. She is also the recipient of a number of prestigious awards including first prize at the Chinese Youth Violin competition and the Guangdong Province Violin Competition.
Yingyi completed her Master of Music studies at theRoyal Northern College of Music (RNCM). She commenced her studies at the RNCM in2013 after winning a College entrance scholarship.She has studied violin with Catherine Yates (Deputy Head of School of Strings), Gina McCormack (first violinist of the Brodsky Quartet) Alexander Sitkovetsky(International soloist and recording artist), Julia Hanson (Guest Principal for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Halle) and Jiafeng Chen (winner of several major violin competitions).
Yingyi has performed in many famous music venue, including the Bridgewater Hall and the RNCM Concert Hall in the UK, the Palace and Gardens of Schönbrunn in Austria and Guangzhou Xinghai Concert Hall in China.
Yingyi’s recent solo performances have included Bach’s violin sonata in G minor, Mozart’s Violin Concerto No 3 in G and No.5 in A, Brahms’s Violin sonata in G and D minor, Franck’s Violin Sonata and Saint-Saens’s Violin Concerto in B minor, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and Prokofiev Violin Concerto in G minor.
Yingyi has taught violin to learners of all ages, promising her students both technical development and musical sensibilities. Her teaching style has been described as being engaging and fun and she is in much demand as a teacher. She recently passed her ABRSM students’ examination with at least merit level demonstrating her ability to teach her instrument to the highest level.
Yingyi’s years of learning and performing opportunities in both China and UK, have enabled her to develop a style that showcases the best of both worlds and which fosters cultural and musical links between the two countries.
